a new dress... And a new give-away...

I know you are probably getting sick of my face. I promise I am not normally so narcissistic. Last night I stayed up and finished the new style of dress I have been working on, and it called for a photo shoot this morning.

During our photo-shoots I make my mum take about 6 million pictures so that I can get the odd few without my eyes closed, mouth open, arms flailing... you get the idea. I am pretty bossy about it too. This morning we had some beautiful light filtering in through the studio windows, so I am particularly happy with some of these shots. Thanks again mum. Living at home again does have lots of advantages.

I will make the new dress style available once I have made a few dozen of them and I know my skills are up to the challenge. You can keep an eye out for ready to ship pieces as they are made. FYI - the amazing organza flowers are c/o Fairytale flowers.

Yes! I know, best give-away ever! Do you remember my tale of the lottery socks?? Well I love my socks so much I bought a pair to give-away here. I have been meaning to arrange it for ages. Do you want them? Leave a comment and I will pick a winner on Sunday.  Easy.

Ciao! I hope you have a wonderful evening lined up.

cross processing...

Since I have announced the temporary closing of the shop, I feel I am slowly coming back to myself again. It's amazing what the prospect of a break can do for ones sanity and health.

Last night I indulged in a couple of hours of creative sewing, trying out a new dress style that I have secret plans for... It is photographed here unfinished and pinned on the mannequin. I have a gorgeous lady visiting this evening for a fitting. It is the muslin for a rather special dress, although I do think it has turned out pretty special in it's own right.

The little person is still unwell and missed daycare again today, which has pushed me a little further behind in my orders, but I am still well within my 8 week turnaround so I am not going to let it stress me out.

Mum and I took a few snaps of my outfit again today, just for fun. We still haven't mastered the back-drop so please excuse all of those pesky wires at the bottom of every photo. It seems that my winter uniform consists of a dress, tights, cardigan and my cowboy boots. It really doesn't fail and I always feel comfortable. The dress is the original Josephine that I made many moons ago: tights from country road: cardigan from kmart: boots from my mum!!!! Thanks mumma - I love you so much!

As promised I have already watched episode 1-8 of gossip girl & eaten too many licorice allsorts. I was in my PJ's by 3pm this afternoon and will probably be in bed by 8pm... Time to catch up on some down time.

time out!

Hey gorgeous friends!! I have a confession to make. I am a teensy bit burnt out and a tad scattered. I have decided to close the etsy shop for a few weeks to catch up on orders and regain some creative strength.

Last week I had to re-make a number of dresses due to silly mistakes. I actually murdered a dress last night by rolling straight over the top of it with my rotary cutter. I have been late getting back to emails, and I have missed many emails altogether!! I am cross-eyed from staring at the computer and I have decided that the best thing for me to do is turn the stupid thing off before I throw it in a dumpster!!

When it comes to naughty shorts - I just want to make my ladies happy! A good customer experience means everything to me. So if I am failing in that department because I have spread myself a little too thin, then I think it is best to step back and regain control and focus.

So I will spend the next few weeks working on existing orders, trying out a couple of new techniques and watching season four of gossip girl. Wherever possible I will take walks on the coast and granny naps are  compulsory! Lazy breakfasts and family dinners will also be encouraged.

I may still pop in here to blog from time to time, but the out-of-office reply will be turned on to respond to new email enquiries. I will still be responding to emails concerning existing orders. Feel free to look me up on instagram!! I hope you understand! I promise its for the best.

the red felt hat...

This morning my mum and I headed out to grab a coffee and hit up a couple of op-shops while we were at it. I was lucky enough to find this gorgeous red felt hat for only $4. I also walked away with a set of six, old English, gold plated dinner plates and a pretty tray cloth that I plan to make something dottie-angel-ish with...

My new plates feel so beautiful, I can't wait to set up a dinner party around them. I have quite a huge collection of mismatched silverware and a few service pieces that will accompany them nicely...

I have lost my apprentice to the Flu! I have to head up-stairs and get some sewing done on my lonesome... I hope you are enjoying a magical Tuesday, wherever you may be.

happenings

The best way to start the day...

Kalah at work...

Cutest little abandoned building...

Little miss Lurgy...

Hi gorgeous people!! I feel like I am becoming a bit of a stranger these days in the bloggy realm. Life has been happening at a breakneck pace and I am just trying to keep up. The small person has been unwell. Her first lurgy for the season. She is feeling better now but spent most of last week watching movies or curled up on a pile of fabric on the floor of my mums studio.

I managed to escape parental duties for a night on the weekend to attend groove-in-the-moo and I am so glad that I did. I spent the whole festival hanging out with my niece, dancing and laughing with new friends and listening to a most awesome collection of artists. Shenanigans I will never forget!

I have since enlisted the help of my niece Kalah as my new apprentice. She will be helping me out for the next few weeks as I try to catch up on orders before my girls trip to Bali at the start of June. (yes, you heard me, a girls trip to bali!!!)  Kalah studied fashion and textiles in high school so she is instantly more qualified than myself. It is a laugh a minute with her in the studio. I expect we will be very productive this week.

healthy, shiny boobies??

This week I have finished the most gorgeous batch of dresses. Some of my very favourites of all time. I will be sending these off in the post today... If you would like your own custom naughty shorts dress I will be updating the shop tomorrow morning... And if you can't wait that long, I think that there are a couple available still...

This weekend I am heading to Bunbury for groove-in-the-moo!! It has been at least a year since I last enjoyed a festival, so look out! I am planning on having a flat out fun day!

Coming up I have a new outfit to show off and my little give-away to offer. I just need someone to take a few pictures for me...

On the home front, my little person has a cold. She is completely gorgeous and snuffly. Yesterday I was getting dressed and she asked me - mummy are those your boobies?, they are so healthy and shiny! - Best compliment ever from a two year old. I mean, doesn't every lady want healthy, shiny boobs?? She is so sweet.

Off I go - upstairs and then to the post-office...

a weekend away...

I have just returned from a gorgeous weekend down south with my little person. We stayed with some favourite friends. We enjoyed yummy roast dinners and lazy mid morning breakfasts. We drank and ate pizza and stayed up talking, but not too late... The little people played and caught up and it was amazing to see them recognise each other after 6 months of being away.

On the drive home today I hit up a few of my favourite old country op-shops and they didn't disappoint. I have arrived home with a car full of treasure, and I can't wait to show off the full extent of the haul at some time later this week...

I promised a give away on Friday, sorry for leading you on, I do have something organised but I have not had the chance to set it up yet. Stay tuned - coming soon.

Dinner time!! I must away...

a little birdy told me...

Holy Moly! What a day!! I am feeling fantastic. For me, this is always the best part of a busy week. This is the point where all my cutting and sewing seems to be getting somewhere. Where I can finally stand back and admire the almost finished dresses that are the fruits of my labour. I am surrounded by piles of fabric, the off-cuts are knee deep on the floor, the cutting table is a mess and the studio is in need of a major tidy BUT the dresses are on hangers and looking delightful and that is all that really matters.

I am planning on finishing a couple of ready-to-ship dresses tonight. Hopefully they will be shop-bound tomorrow. I will be updating the shop tomorrow (FRIDAY) instead of Saturday morning, as I am heading down South for the weekend. Due to popular demand I will be listing a limited number of custom twitter dresses. These will be listed at $160.00 plus shipping. They are made from a high quality stretch cotton drill, finished with birdy appliqué and machine embroidery around the neck and hemlines... They are very time intensive to make, hence the higher price-tag (compared to last year when I released this style) but you know what - totally worth it :) Email me with any questions.

Make sure you pop by again tomorrow - I have a little something to give-away...

mid-week happenings...

3.

Happy Wednesday gorgeous people! Guess What... I won lotto last night! No, not the jackpot, but the happy sum of $23.45!! Woohoo!! I quickly hot-footed it around the corner from the newsagents to the pharmacy to invest in the most awesome winter socks going. I then decided to take the rest of the day off work (who cares that it was already 3pm), pick up the little from daycare and head out for afternoon coffee and cake. Marvellous! So now I have indulged in late arvo coffee, I might stay up late sewing again...

I have 10 dresses all at different stages of completion. I hope to have them all finished by Friday - maybe a tiny bit ambitious but that is just how I roll...

Also...

Congrats to gorgeous miss Annika who won the naughty shorts giveaway over at her library adventures.  This lady has the cutest blog full of lovely diy's. Go check her out!

Tuesday, May 8, 2012

Hello my friends! Sorry I have been a bit quiet on the blog front this week. I have been busy. Busy settling into a new routine. Busy with late night sewing. Busy with my small person...

Things are starting to feel normal and today especially I achieved a whole lot. I am organised again.

Perth's gloomy skies have been so good for my soul, but not necessarily for my camera. Instagram will have to suffice for the moment...

Completely exhausted so this will be brief.
