lazy weekend happenings...

This is my person. We are very proud of her and her mad toilet skills. Her favourite part is the flushing.  She thinks it deserves a 'woohoo' and a high five, every time!

Today we enjoyed a cafe breakfast with friends and then headed to the beach. Despite the wintery weather the babes stills stripped off to play in the water and we ended up burying them both in the sand. We built a mermaid around my person complete with big sandy boobies that she cupped happily before jumping up and ruining all our efforts.

Once they were on the verge of frostbite, we wrapped them up and made our way home for a long hot shower and some fireside warmth. We actually haven't made any attempt to leave the house since. I think the rest of the weekend will involve a slow cooked meal, a glass of shiraz (or three) and possibly some dressmaking behaviour.

Keep warm peeps!!

the little shack by the beach...

We are settling into life at little shack nicely.
BUT It has not all been roses. The cold and the wet have made things a bit tricky. My first attempts at building a fire nearly resulted in death by smoke inhalation and the little bags of wood from the service station burnt much faster than I ever anticipated. One week on I am happy to tell you that I am the master of the fire place and that all burns and splinters are healing well. I now have a trailers worth of wood sitting pretty on the steps of little shack which should keep us going for the next month. The leak in the kitchen appears to have fixed itself (??) and the resident mouse doesn't make too much noise whilst digging around the kitchen in the middle of the night. I did have a heart stopping moment when the tremendous footsteps of the possum living upstairs (in the roof) managed to work its way into my dream/nightmare causing me to wake suddenly with my pulse racing in my eardrums. I quickly realised that it was not someone coming to murder me and I was able to sleep  again soon after the adrenalin had stopped pumping through veins.

I have been busy working on twitter dresses for some very beautiful and patient ladies. If I get back to work now I might be able to hem them in time to make today's post!! Spit spot.

Have a most fabulous weekend!!

Over the last few weeks all of my time has been spent preparing for a collaboration between some pretty talented South-west ladies. I have been so excited, planning, plotting and organising. This was my first professional shoot so I was quite nervous too. The photos here today are just my personal snaps from the DSLR, instagram and a few shots are from our grooms go-pro mini cam. We are excitedly standing by for when our photographer has her professional shots ready for our
viewing pleasure.

It has been a full-on weekend. I am now feeling completely exhausted but I just wanted to say a quick thank-you to gorgeous peeps who helped me turn this idea into a reality.

special thanks-

My bride and groom and my girls, you all looked so incredible and stayed so happy and willing, even though it was freezing cold and a FULL day of work. You guys are amazing and I love you.

Thank-you to my dad and Judy for taking care of my little person while I was taking care of my project.

I was surrounded by the most incredibly supportive and upbeat team from the word go. It was so much fun. I can't wait to do this again.

OK then. The fires cranking, I have a yummy slow cooked lamb with polenta for dinner, my pyjama's are on and the couch is beckoning...

home sweet home...

For the last couple of months since I left Pannawonica I have been shacked up with my generous mumma and step-dad. It has been lovely and they have made us feel more than welcome in their home, but nothing compares to having a space of your own. When a close friend of mine offered me her beach shack for a couple of months while she visited family interstate - I leapt at the chance.

Late yesterday afternoon I arrived here with my car full of fabric loot and my sewing machines. I spent the night putting together flat pack furniture and upending boxes of fabric. I brought all of my vintage kantha quilts, hand-made pillows and tins full of lace and trims.  I haven't finished putting everything away yet, but I am sure as you will see from the photos that I will make myself quite at home here, even if it is just for a short while....

My stylish friend has left me a beautiful space. Last night I slept with the window open to the sound of the rain and the ocean. Apart from being woken by the odd gust of wind and a possum or two, it is very peaceful and serene here.

Time to set up the machines and let this space inspire me. I have two big wedding orders coming up. A handful of twitter dresses to make and a stack of about ten dresses that need to be wrapped for shipping.

I hope your week is off to a productive and inspiring start.

Friday evening

The weekend is off to a glorious start!! So far I have enjoyed a luxurious bath and
slipped into a gorgeous new nighty, long johns and a cosy robe.
I am cooking dinner for my Mumma while the rain gently falls on the tin roof.
I have a piping hot cup of tea made with sweetened condensed milk, one of my favourite indulgences!
I have a rainbow of dresses ready to finish and I am feeling rejuvenated from my break and
I am ready to sew.

I don't think it gets much better!

Last night I re-opened the etsy shop. I have used some of the beautiful photo's of Elsie wearing her naughty shorts dress from her shoot on a beautiful mess

Tomorrow night I might be going out on the town....

What are you up too this weekend?

Tickle in Print!!

Good evening beautiful people. I hope this evenings post finds you well and happy!!

If you read this blog regularly then you will have already seen the naughty shorts feature in tickle the imagination magazine last week. Yesterday I received an exciting email from Tanya Collier, the creative lady behind the magazine, outlining the possibility of tickle mag becoming a real-life, hold in your hands, printed publication. This is awesome news for the Australian handmade community. To get this project under way Tanya needs our help.

To find out how you can help please visit this link for more information. By promising to pre-order your first copy/copies, you will be making this dream a reality. It has only been one day and TTI has already reached one third of its target. It just goes to show how far the reach of this little mag goes. If you have an Australian handmade business, this is a fantastic opportuntity to secure advertising and recognition for your quality product.

Lets rally behind Tania and help make her dream come true, and by doing so you will be inadvertently helping many other creative types in the process.

Hairy weather...

Here is a sneaky peek at something I have been working on...
Pictures all via INstagram (follow me: naughtyshorts)

Western Australia has been whipped by Cyclonic winds over the past few days and massive parts of the State have been without power. Tonight we are bracing for more severe weather and we might lose power again. Yes I have enjoyed late night scrabble and impromptu drumming sessions with the family after dinner. Yes I love candlelight. Yes I love the excitement of this wild weather BUT I do not want to waste any more time away from my sewing machine.

Today is my big sisters birthday so my mumma has been in the kitchen for hours making the yummiest lamb-shanks as only she knows how.

Ok! Time to unplug for the evening.

A beautiful mess

Summertime Sister Style 4

Summertime Sister Style 4

Floral dress

I am barely functioning after a 4.00 am bed time and a 5.30 awakening. last night I boarded the red-eye home from my four day Bali escape and today I am paying the price.... Although I can hardly keep my eyes open, I just wanted to share these photos from a lovely website I am sure most of you know - a beautiful mess. The gorgeous miss Elsie Larson chose to wear a naughty shorts Annie dress made by myself for a recent style post. This is of-course something that makes me quite happy... Thanks miss Elsie, I think you look beautiful.

I will now use this weekend to recover from my week. Cheap Bali copies of TV series such as revenge and mad men offer the promise of hours of mindless relaxation. I will partake in as much laying down as my small person will allow...

Come Tuesday I will step back into naughty-mode and get busy in the studio. I have a few exciting plans up my sleeve...

tickled pink...

graphic design

So firstly, I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am to be in the current issue of tickle the imagination. It is a bi-monthly online publication that focuses on handmade and it is so SO beautifully put together.

I am sending out a huge thank-you to Tanya who is the lady behind the mag AND an especially huge thank-you to miss Katie Mitchell, the lady responsible for that image on the front cover AND another huge thank-you to miss Laura Mitchell (aka Kit & Nancy) who IS the lady in the picture on the front cover!! Hellooooooo gorgeous! If you have been reading this blog for a while you might remember the collaboration between the three of us last year. Here is a link to the pictures...

I have a whole heap to be excited about this weekend. Last night I packed my bags in preparation of my Bali escape. I will be leaving tomorrow (Monday) morning, WAY too early (try 4am), where I will be meeting up with one of my most favourite people in the universe for 5 days of massages, cocktails, shopping, swimming and hopefully maybe even a sleep in or two... This is the first time I will be away from the little person for more than one night and I am a bit nervous. The timing is not perfect as Zavian has tonsillitis right now, but I am sure that when it comes to these sorts of things the timing is hardly ever right...

I have stayed up till midnight sewing all week trying to get a few last orders sent out before my departure. I did not get the chance to phoptograph everything I made but I will leave you with a few snaps from my week...

See you when I get back!
