the road to Panna...

Last night we arrived home after whirlwind tour of our soon-to-be home town of Pannawonica, or as the locals call it 'Panna' OR as my small person called it 'Pacca-wacca' :)

We arrived in Karratha on Sunday night. I was surprised by the number of twinkling lights that indicated to me that Karratha was larger than I expected. After picking up the hire car we drove to our hotel in the centre of town. I hardly slept a wink as I thought about the changes that lay ahead of us.

In my mind Karratha would be somewhere for us to visit, maybe monthly, with cafes and pretty shops. The light of day revealed Karratha's true colours - Unfortunately it is not the retail oasis that I had imagined, but it does have a thrift store.

We left Karratha to start the 2 hour drive to Panna. As we drove towards the desert town one thing became extremely apparent, that this IS the middle of nowhere.

The town of Pannawonica is actually very cute. It has everything you need. Lovely play grounds, a swimming pool, a post office (essential), supermarket, day care centre... The climate is tropical. Hot all year round with the wet season being in the summer. The earth is red dirt. Everything takes the colour of the dirt. There are beautiful wild flowers growing every where. In the areas where the water floods every year there are beautiful tall gum trees.

I have lived in Broome during the wet season a few times, and I can honestly say that it is my favourite time of year. The rain and the electrical storms energize me. The humid heat does not bother me, however I will be sad to say goodbye to my uniform of boots and tights, cardigan and tea dress...

I feel the same way I did when I found out that I was pregnant with Zavian. I know that this is something I want to do - but I am terrified! I am delirious. Happiness and excitement one moment
and on the brink of tears the next.

Levi on the other hand is over the moon. As someone who loves nothing more than camping and fishing, the wide open spaces and river systems are hugely appealing. The prospect of Gnaraloo surf break just a few hours away and of course the chance to come home to his family every night sealed the deal.

There is so much that I want to tell you about this move. But my head is spinning and I am exhausted.

One thing I am glad of is that no matter where I am I can take you guys with me! So thank you all for your support and words of encouragement.

I hope you are all having a wonderful week so far.

Mwah!

  1. How exciting for you all. It's sounds beautiful the way you have described it and with a post office and internet connection life should go on as before and with some amazing photo potential. Looking forward to going on the travels with you. By the way, I so hope you start making tea dresses again as I could really do with another one! They are perfect for hot humid summery days you know. melxx

  3. Own it baby! I grew up in tiny little mining towns just like Pannawonica and I loved it. Everyday we had adventures, went bush and were completely feral, it's a great life for a young family. Good luck :)

  5. How very exciting for you and your little family! My family have been living in Broome for the past year and a half, but before that spent time in Tom Price and Northam and enjoyed both places. I'm sure you will not struggle to find things to do! x
