granny hangers and other stuff - oppy finds

I'm sitting at my dining table, enjoying the dappled afternoon sun. The windows are open and the breeze is carrying in the smell of a barbecue dinner from somewhere, maybe being cooked by one of my neighbors... The smell is making me hungry and bringing back memories of my long Australia Day weekend. Its the perfect end to a busy day of domestic chores.

I hit up a few op-shops on my way home from Perth yesterday. Once again I managed to find a car load of thrifted goodness. That is two weeks in a row!!  New crockery, fabric, nick-knacks and all manner of vintagey delights were piled high on my dining table.  Today was a perfect day to dust off my shelves, do a spot of re-arranging and find new homes for my lovelies.  In amongst the cleaning we made cupcakes, napped, drank tea and watched a movie. It wasn't far off from domestic bliss....

I was surprised to turn on the TV after a weekend of Australia day celebrations to learn about the Queensland flooding. My heart and thoughts go out to all of those affected. Please keep safe and look after each other. I will be looking at auctioning a dress for the purpose of fundraising in the near future. If anyone knows of a good fundraising host please let me know.

Updates from the sugar shack

I am sitting at a table surrounded by parcels. I have finished all of the dresses from my pre-Christmas market and they are all now wrapped and ready to ship. My Internet is still a bit shoddy, so I have decided to close up the etsy shop again and start working on new ready to ship pieces that I will make available in about a month. I have found that not making custom orders gives me so much freedom, with my time and creatively, so it is the way I would like to go forward for now. I will of course take a few custom orders every now and then AND I have a couple of outstanding orders taken via etsy over the last few weeks that I will start next week.

I am off to the city for an Australia day party with some of my bestest friends. Another long day of pool side lounging, yummy barbecue lunches and listening to the countdown to number one on the radio. I made myself a dress for the occasion. I found this surfer man fabric at an oppy in Bunbury on my way home last week. I knew straight away that I NEEDED to have a dress made from it. Its super short, and has cute capped sleeves. Its fits perfectly and is just what I wanted. I love the style and I am sure I will replicate it again. Keep an eye out for my ready-to-ship pieces if you are interested in getting your hands on one.

I hope you have an amazing day tomorrow, wherever you may be. Lets hope it is a safe and peaceful day for everyone. Enjoy! Bec x

Paradise...

It's hard not to be happy when you start the day with a walk along the pristine coastline of the Southwest. Yesterday was, I have to admit, my first walk of the new year. After a month of indulgence in food and partying I have been slow to get going in the morning, but with the right tunes in my ear I found myself running through half of my normal route without any struggle. If set the pace for a gorgeous day of sewing and domestic activities. I am feeling on top of the world right now. I can't wait to do it all again today...

around here

It is hot. Its almost too hot to concentrate. I have sweat beading on the back of my neck, my fan is turned up to eleven and all of the windows and doors are open in the hope of trying to catch anything that resembles a breeze. So far this summer I have been sun burned three times! So irresponsible, I know, but I swear the sun is feeling hotter than ever and it has completely caught me by surprise!

We have been enjoying frequent visits to the beach and meals outside on the patio with neighbours and friends. This is summer as I remember from my childhood. Napping during the day in front of the fan and playing outside even when the sun has gone down and the mozzies have come out. 2013 is off to a lazy and enjoyable start.

Today I finalised the details of my latest orders. Now I am ready to start cutting and despite the heat I am feeling pretty excited to get to work. I haven't touched my sewing machine for nearly a month!! So far this summer has been all about music festivals, barbecues, parties, friends, movies, pools, beaches, family and food. I am starting to feel desperate to tap back into my creative side and make some plans for this new year.

I am planning on shutting the etsy shop again for the next couple of weeks while I have my new internet connection installed. This will allow me to focus on finishing my current orders before I take on any new ones. I will be answering emails on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

Hopefully by Friday this stack of fabric will look like a rack of half finished dresses!

Fabric update!!

Fabric update!! Due to technical difficulties I have had to upload all of my new fabrics to FB. Hopefully I will be able to get them on the blog soon. Enjoy xx

Hi there beautiful people!! Here is a link to the latest fabrics I have to offer for custom orders. Due to technical difficulties I have had to create an album on facebook to show them off. (for some reason I cant upload new pictures to my existing fabric page??) You can find the new fabrics here And you can find my existing fabric album here .

Ladies who purchased a custom dress spot at the pre-Christmas market will get first pick of the latest offerings!

I am currently sitting at McDonald's making use of the free wi-fi as my Internet , once again, is not working!!!! It is so loud in here I cant hear myself think and I have been hanging around for so long that I'm sure that the 'fast food stench' is going to be infused in my hair and clothes. Yuck. Not having the Internet at home makes checking my emails and responding to FB messages tricky so please be patient with me until this situation is again sorted out.

Phew. Time to pack up and go home. I hope you are all safe and well. Sending out thoughts and strength to anyone who is facing the danger of bush fires around this dry, hot land of ours. Bec x

Festivities!

Happy new year gorgeous folk! Welcome to 2013. This post offers no inspiring list of resolutions. That will come, eventually. I am tired, sunburned and revelling in the aftermath of a solid two weeks of couch surfing with my favourite people. This is just a quick note to wish you all a happy and safe new year, and to let you know that I am still alive, barely :)

I have one last weekend of mischief up my sleeve as Southbound hits Busselton on Friday. I am catching a few early nights and liquor free days in preparation of what will surely be a wild event.

Then maybe it will all go back to normal and I will settle into the rhythm of the new year.

Much love xx
